You are exposed to toxins every day of your life. These can come from:
Internal sources -
maldigestion
free radicals
stress
hormonal imbalances
imbalance in intestinal
bacteria and leaky gut
External sources
air pollution
chemicals such as
solvents or formaldehyde
cigarettes
food additives and
contaminants
herbicides and pesticides
(2,4-D, paraquat, Roundup etc)
radiation (TV and
computers)
water (chlorine
and fluoride)
All of these are toxins - that interfere with, or interrupt the billions of processes that keep us alive.
Toxins can affect every system in our bodies - the digestive, immune, hormonal and nervous systems.
Exposure to toxins can cause a range of short-term conditions, such as:
allergies
constipation or
diarrhoea
fatigue
headache
indigestion
muscle pains and
aches
nausea and vomiting
poor memory
pre-menstrual tensione
Or long-term conditions, such as:
asthma
auto-immune diseases
(rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc)
osteoporosis
chronic fatigue
syndrome (ME)
eczema
psoriasis
heart disease
impotence and infertility
reccurrent infections
Some toxins can enter through the skin (such as heavy metals, herbicides and pesticides, solvents etc.) or through the lungs (cigarette smoke, exhaust fumes, paint, glue, solvents etc .)
However, most toxins enter through the gut - in our food and water - or are created by maldigestion.
Our digestive system has evolved to cope with this to some extent and consists of a number of barriers to infection (stomach acid, digestive enzymes and probiotic bacteria).
70% of our immune system is associated with the gut
The liver and the systemic immune system play a part in defending us against toxins.
ALL of these barriers are increasingly overwhelmed by our modern-day lifestyles!
The biggest problem our detoxification systems face is in dealing with unnatural, synthetic chemicals - not only those used in food processing but those that enter the food chain such as antibiotics, hormones, herbicides and pesticides, fertilizers etc.
There are over 70,000 such substances in regular use and 600 new chemicals enter the market every month.
Our lifestyle can also upset digestion, resulting in food not being properly digested and producing toxic substances which cause inflammatory reactions in the gut. This leads to a condition called "leaky gut syndrome" which in turn leads to more toxins entering the body and travelling up the portal vein to the liver.
The liver is arguably the most important organ in the body
It is the major site for detoxification of everything in the body
- not only dietary toxins, but also our wastes, hormones, neurotransmitters
etc.
So if your liver is not working efficiently, neither will you!
A healthy liver filters out all the toxins through Phase-1 and Phase-2 detoxification through the blood, rendering them safe for elimination via stools or urine.
If the liver is toxic this mechanism doesn't operate properly and toxins recirculate to impact the immune system and trigger inflammation and disease.
The first process is to treat your allergies using NAET. This is a form of detoxification in itself. You may also need to undergo a process of detoxification to completely rid your body of parasites, candida or bacterial infection and restore its ability to eliminate toxins.
An integrated detoxification programme works best. There is a definate sequence that MUST be followed to achieve the best possible outcome from this programme.
If, for example, liver toxins were dumped into a gut that had not been reapired, they would be reabsorbed through the 'leaky gut' to cause more damage. Or, if a bowel is detoxified, but not reapired, then the 'leaks' will still allow unwanted substances from the gut to enter the body
The process of detoxification takes a minimum of 4 weeks according to your condition.
Before suggesting a detox programme a full assessment will have been done of nutritional deficiencies, gastric and digestive function, the presence of candida or imbalance in intestinal flora (dysbioisis)
The actual process of detoxification consists of the following stages:
Bowel
purge - using epsom salts or castor
oil (optional)
Avoidance
of reactive foods and treatment of
allergies to foods, fungae, yeasts, parasites, bacteria etc. using
NAET
'Weeding' - treatment
of bacterial or parasitic infection (if present) with herbs and/or
homoeopathics and improvement of digestive function using ayurvedic
herbs
Seeding - gut reinoculation with healthy
bugs (probiotics)
Feeding - Repair of the damage done
to the gut wall by feeding the gut with glutamine etc.
Feeding the liver to support its Phase
1 and 11 detoxification process and help it regenerate
Deep
tissue cleanse to clear out deep-seated,
fat-soluble toxins, such as heavy metals or pestcides
Quite apart from the treatment of allergies, a programme of eating nutritious food will be suggested. The main part of this is to prevent obesity by:
avoiding
reactive foods
eating
less animal fat and eliminating margarine and trans-fatty acids
eating
less sugar
eating
more whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables (organic where possible)
and fish
drinking
more water - use water in preference to other drinks, especially
soft drinks, colas, tea and coffee
Using
less salt
Eliminating/reducing
takeaway foods (high in fats and salts)
The following diet can be useful for people with allergies, candidiasis, chemical or environmental sensitivities as well as problems such as fatigue, digestive problems, muscle/joint pains etc. during the detoxification process.
